Dana Breedlove, PhD
Licensed Psychologist and Education Specialist
My philosophy and approach was born out of my knowledge of human behavior and experiences within the educational environment.  Often there are simple changes that can be made to help children meet daily expectations.  Children are full of natural curiosity and wonder.  They want to discover and learn.  Typically, they will learn when provided appropriate instruction, opportunity, guidance, and support.  I believe that children do well if they can. Sometimes they require more support, or different kinds of support, to learn and grow.

Does the child have the skills needed to behave differently or meet given expectations?  Is a child looking for "attention" or personal connection?  We will use a systematic problem-solving process to interpret their functioning and understand their needs, whether behavioral or academic.  Critically evaluating skills, expectations, environmental conditions, and interpersonal relationships and communication will guide us to effective intervention strategies.  Our goal throughout this process includes moving both the child and adults to a better place with increased understanding and confidence to solve problems and find compromise.

What makes me uniquely qualified to help?

As a School Psychologist and Exceptional Children's Teacher for almost 20 years, I have helped children develop academic and social-behavioral skills to improve their learning and functioning in a school setting.  Within school and clinical settings, I have evaluated children ages two to sixteen to assess their functioning and determine their educational needs.  I have also developed and implemented a wide range of interventions to address children's developmental, learning, and social-emotional needs at school and within the family setting.  Since a child's experiences at school impact his or her sense of self, it is important for parents to not only understand their child's school experiences, but also know how they can positively impact those experiences and support their child.  My experience and my knowledge of regular education, special education, child development, and mental health provides a unique perspective for problem-solving when your child is struggling.

The question is not what you look at, but what you see.
